Union City Public Participation

Public Engagement
Community engagement is a key part of the Union City Planning and Zoning Ordinance Review and Update. Input from residents, business owners, property owners, and other stakeholders helps identify priorities, highlight concerns, and inform updates to zoning regulations.

At this stage of the process, public meetings and open houses are still being planned. Dates, times, and locations will be posted on this page as they are scheduled. As the Planning and Zoning Ordinance Review and Update continues, this page will be updated with announcements, meeting information, and opportunities to participate.

The Union City Zoning Ordinance Update Public Meeting was held on April 23, 2026, at the Gathering Place, with nearly 40 residents and stakeholders in attendance. The meeting served as an opportunity to inform the public on the progress of the zoning rewrite and to gather community input to guide future planning efforts. The presentation was led by Carletta Singleton of The Collaborative Firm (TCF), who facilitated a comprehensive and engaging discussion. Attendees were encouraged to ask questions and provide feedback throughout the presentation, resulting in a productive and interactive dialogue.

Overall, residents demonstrated a forward-looking perspective and a willingness to support strategic growth and redevelopment.

Participants noted varying levels of familiarity with the zoning update process. Some residents shared that they had already completed the project survey, while others indicated their intention to complete it following the meeting, citing a better understanding of zoning and the importance of the update.

Attendees also engaged in hands-on activities, including:

  • Reviewing current zoning and land use maps

  • Providing feedback through written comment cards

These activities allowed residents to offer specific, location-based input and contribute directly to the planning process.

In conclusion, attendees demonstrated a clear interest in shaping development patterns, preserving key assets, and supporting strategic economic growth. The feedback collected will play a critical role in refining the zoning ordinance and ensuring it aligns with the community’s vision. Ongoing engagement efforts will continue to build on this momentum, encouraging broader participation and deeper collaboration as the project progresses,
